Striving for Community empowerment
Agriculture
The Foundation facilitates partnerships, mentors, guides, and educates farmers about the right principles for livestock and crop farming for the greatest yield, as well as sustainable agriculture that creates economic opportunity, respects limits on natural resources and is climate smart, and improves the food security of the community.
Commercial farming is about more than producing in bulk; farmers must produce according to buyer specifications and health standards. This is a practice that most farmers in Lesotho are not aware of as most have not studied past Grade 12, if at all. The foundation bridges this knowledge gap through trainings and mentorship designed for each community and specific agricultural produce.
Health
Lesotho has been plagued by HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis for several years, making it to the top of lists of countries with the most infections. These diseases affect the livelihood of many families who have lost breadwinners to illness, which has adversely affected the fight against poverty and the overall health of the population.
We contribute to work done by Government to improve the health and wellbeing of the Basotho people through the provision of disease prevention and medical equipment. In support of research and innovation in different health issues solutions that emanate locally, SMF has donated M30 million towards a testing facility and vaccinations for the prevention of the COVID-19 virus.
Youth & Entrepreneurship
The Foundation operates under the principle of equipping people with skills that will enable them to empower themselves and create their own opportunities. The onset of COVID-19 has resulted in a rise in youth unemployment in the country. It is with this in mind that the Foundation is committed to fostering a culture of entrepreneurship and discipline among the youth of Lesotho with the aim of seeing an increase in job creation and the alleviation of poverty in our communities.
Education
We support education from early childhood to tertiary level by building learning facilities with the right tools and equipment, as well as providing scholarships and human resources for the overall improvement of learning experiences for the youth of Lesotho.
“Empower, Change and sustain.”
